High acquisition cost and limited range are the main impediments for 4-wheeler EV demand in India. But three-wheelers (3W), or ‘rickshaws’, could switch faster given most ply commercially and leverage lower operating costs. And in electric buses, government is acting as initial adopter. 'Battery swapping’ infrastructure is key to the discussion on battery ecosystem given positives like quicker charging (5-10 minutes), lower vehicle cost (batteries can be leased separately) and better grid management (batteries in inventory can be charged at lowest rates at a centralized location).
